In His Shadow Chapter VI - The Outcast
He stared, mouth open in stunned silence. He couldn’t even remember how to move. Should he even be moving? Thinking? Shouldn’t he say something?
He closed his mouth. His throat was dry and scratchy. If only there was water.
Browning leaves fell like snow around Link’s guardian, forming an imperfect ring around the base of the tree. Another long moment passed.
Today had started out as the happiest day of his young life. That very morning, a fairy guardian had finally come to him. Their first meeting hadn’t been what he’d expected—she’d rudely woken him from bed and berated him until he’d gone to see the Great Deku Tree. But all the same, he’d reveled in the knowledge that he at last had a fairy guardian to call his own. He was a true Kokiri now.
The fairy, Navi, was hovering anxiously a few feet from him, as shocked as he was.
“Great Deku Tree?” she asked tentatively to thin air.
Link swallowed hard. “I think&

Castle Town had been Hyrule’s quaint, bustling capital for generations. It had long ago surpassed the size of a town and become a fully-fledged city. In terms of size and population, it had grown slowly but steadily like a mighty oak tree. It was crowded, but sturdy and sustaining.
Ever since the Unification War, however, the sudden influx of refugees and newly parentless children had caused a problem. Accommodation had been the biggest concern, rapidly fixed with the addition of the West Quarter. The orphanages, however, had simply stretched their resources to the limit to house the increase in children whose parents had perished in the war.
All of Castle Town’s dozen or so homes for children were owned by noble families. It wasn’t a terribly lucrative business; most had been bought by kind-hearted nobles wishing to aid the less fortunate, and kept in the family through inheritance.
There was no doubt that the current holder of the Palardine family fortune had no int

“Open the gate!”
The barked order stirred the soldiers patrolling the western wall to action. In a frenzy they took their positions; it required the strength of two men to operate the drawbridge pulley. With the usual clink and rattle, the chain came free, dropping the heavy wooden door with alarming speed. It fell into place with a dull thunk, allowing the visitors to pass.
“To your stations!” the lieutenant shouted, keeping the sentry guards moving.
The western wall was Hyrule Castle’s secondary entrance, a way to bypass the hustle and bustle of Castle Town and head straight for the castle. Of course, it also required passing by a heavily guarded passage and the soldiers’ barracks. The procession crossed the bridge without fanfare. A small group on horseback, they followed their path steadily up to the castle’s second gate: the final obstacle before reaching the inside.
The leader of the group tightened his grip on the re

The only improvement was the occasional flash of lightning which illuminated the white stone gate, the sturdy wooden bridge closed tightly, impenetrable. Directly above it, the image of the Royal crest had been expertly carved into the stone; its raised surface cast slight shadows each time the lightning light struck it.
The rapid pitter-patter sound of heavy raindrops crashing into the moat harmonized with the grumble of thunder. This was soon interrupted by a new sound; a rattling, metallic shake as the chains securing the drawbridge gave way. The bridge lowered quickly, slamming into place over the moat. From the dark corridor on the other side, a pinprick of white was visible, growing larger by the second.
Hooves clattered on cobblestone, a horse’s neigh echoed down the street; the next second, the pure white horse was galloping past him. He leaped aside, raising his head in time to see the rider
In His Shadow - Bonus Chapter
Hyrule was in a state of unease. The future of the kingdom looked bleak. The people had begun to lose hope. Even now, the forces that would destroy Hyrule marched upon her gates, ready to strike the final blow.
The King sat alone in his office, his head lowered, his eyes downcast. Outside, it rained. He had failed. He had failed his people. He had failed Hyrule. The war was not over. His army was faltering; their spirits had been stripped. The Gerudo forces approached his city, a dark shadow on the horizon.
The King raised his head; a slow, almost painful motion for him. His eyes were bloodshot, encircled by the darkness of insomnia. His white, withered hands shook like that of a man twice his age. Indeed, he did not look himself. He had aged decades in a single year.
Today should have been a day of celebration, but he could not find it in his heart to do so. How could he, when everything had crumbled so rapidly around him? His enemies grew stronger, thanks to his own foolish actions.

Sweet, encompassing coolness filled the hall; a welcome contrast to the burning world outside the temple. Impossibly, it was undamaged by the fires just outside its stone walls, resisting all the world’s evils.
The heavy door closing behind him, he dropped to his knees, the pain blinding. He didn’t have much time, but he couldn’t stop his lungs from taking great heaving breaths, or his body from shaking.
He knew the Demon would make chase soon, after it discovered what had been done to its pet. Glancing down at his spoils from his encounter with the beast, he felt a small satisfaction. A large chunk of its deep blue, armor-like hide and its twin, curving tusks had scattered to the floor. Suitable trophies, he thought.
Struggling upwards with great difficulty, he placed gauntleted hands on his own head, gripping his helmet. He lifted it free, tossing it to the ground with the other objects. The clanging sound of it landing echoed in the hall as he stepped forward. Move

Chapter Eight: Dawn of the Second Day
Vean turned over in his straw bed, feeling too tired and sore to get up. Link could do enough damage when he wasn’t under the control of some laughing sorcerer and Vean hadn’t exactly fought back.
A rooster caw sounded and Vean sat up in annoyance. He rubbed his eyes, trying to clear his head. The room he was in was cramped and cluttered, rough drawings of grassy fields and oceans covering most of the wood paneling. It was his new friend Kafei’s room.
He started to feel a little claustrophobic in the small room so he made his way over to the door and opened it just a crack so that he could see into the main room of the house. He spotted Kafei’s grandmother walking around, probably making breakfast. She was right between him and the front door. Great, he thought tiredly. He was thankful that Cremia had given him a place to stay for the night, but he didn’t want to stay any longer than necessary. Especially

Vean’s usually sketchy memory was now filled with recollections of his parents. Things that he only remembered vaguely before came to him with crystal clarity and things he had forgotten long before coming down with amnesia returned to him as well. The man before him was more than a memory though. This man was a living breathing image of his dad. His hair was long, brown, and flopped over his forehead. His eyes were dark green and very expressive under his thick eyebrows.
“Your dad?” the man said as he looked over Vean’s head back in the direction they had come. “Was he in the canyon back there?”
Vean blinked, at a loss for words. Yes, his dad had been in that canyon. His dad was standing before him right now, but the man didn’t know it. This man, Rohe, didn’t know who Vean was at all. How was that at all possible?
“Kid, was your father in that canyon with you?” he asked again, putting his hand

Vean thought back to the times when he had nearly killed Link as Malum and almost felt that this was some sort of payback. Link charged forward and swung his blade at his brother with a broad swing. Vean dove aside, but he then had to roll sideways as Link brought his blade straight down on him.
“Link, what are you doing?” Vean asked as he got to his feet and backed away. “It’s me, your brother Vean.”
There wasn’t any change in Link’s blank expression. The Fierce Deity before him hardly looked like his brother. The masked sorcerer’s annoying high pitched laugh rang through the silence. “Once the Fierce Deity finishes you off, I’ll only have one hero to worry about,” the man chuckled. “I’m glad that Kurai told me about you. Destroying you both separately wouldn’t have been as much fun.”
Link swung his sword again, but this time a slice of light shot out of it and h

Chapter One: Dawn of the First Day
Vean was woken up by the feeling of the sun on his face. The feeling startled him and he opened his eyes to see that the morning was already halfway over. He sat up abruptly, causing his little sailboat to sway back and forth on the water. The other small boy aboard, who had been sitting hazardously balanced on the edge of the boat, cried out with the effort of not falling into the ocean.
“Yoru?” Vean remembered as he brushed his floppy blond hair from his face. “What are you doing? You were supposed to wake me up long before morning.”
Yoru climbed to a more stable position in the boat and put his hand back on the tiller just as Vean had shown him to do last night. “I did try to wake you up,” the boy explained. “But you didn’t hear me.”
Vean highly doubted that notion. He was usually a very light sleeper, but then again, yesterday had been a very trying day. An evil demigoddess, her undergro

“Let the kid go, Captain,” Vean said, gesturing to the boy that was still being held by the collar of his tunic. Tetra let go of Yoru and sheathed her small dagger at her waist. The small boy scampered away and hid behind Vean as if he were afraid that Tetra would grab him again.
“Don’t worry, Yoru,” he assured the boy. “She’s not going to hurt you.”
“Who is she?” the boy practically squeaked.
In truth, Vean hardly knew Captain Tetra at all. When he first met her, he thought that perhaps she was Link’s sidekick, but after a while he began to believe it was the other way around. Vean could vaguely remember running across other pirates, but he had a feeling that Tetra was one of the more pleasant ones.
“She’s a friend,” Vean replied at last. “Isn’t that right, Miss Tetra?”
“So what happened to your other sidekick, Vean?” Tetra asked as she swagger

Chapter Three: The Missing Link
Yoru’s stomach grumbled as he was dragged into another part of town by Vean. Far too much had happened in the last forty-eight hours and he was beginning to think that the freedom he’d always dreamed about wasn’t worth all this trouble. Even without his mean older sister around, he’d been caught in the snow, nearly been drowned, and narrowly missed being killed in a sandstorm. How was a guy supposed to get a decent meal with all this nonsense around every corner?
Vean’s friend Tetra lead them to a part of town that wasn’t walled off by stone, but by cliff sides that were covered in snaky green vines. The ground was all grass and dirt rather than stone tiles and there were even a couple of funny trees that were fat in the middle, but thin near the top like skinny pears.
“Augh!” Tetra griped. “I’ve looked here at least a dozen times. Where could he be hiding?”
“He looks just lik

"This stupid cage! I never thought it would be this difficult to break!" Midna kept trying to break the cage open. She suddenly started to think about the young hero who she traveled with.
"Link Midna wouldn't do such a thing." Zelda was inside of the prison, listening to what Link had told her about his last encounterment with Midna.
He gave her a mad yet sad look. "You don't know how I felt. It's different than yours." He thought to himself.
Zelda tried to use her magic to turn him back to normal but didn't seem to work. "There has to be a way to undo this." Zelda used every spell she knew but nothing worked. Chapter one: Dawn of a new world.
Before the beginnings of Time, there was nothing but Chaos.
From the Nothingness emerged streams of energy, glimpses of Things That Could Be But Were Not, before returning to the Emptiness.
There, were the Godesses of Old, the Three Maidens of Virtue: Din, whose Power was absolute, Nayru, who held infinite Wisdom, and Farore, whose heart was filled with unshakeable Courage.
The Golden Maidens laid their eyes on the inform mass of the Chaos, and saw the Void waiting to be filled. The Three Divine Sisters were displeased by the sight, and Nayru, with her great Wisdom, decided to shape the World.
She told her sisters of her plan, and all agreed.
Din was the first one to stand: in a swift movement, She cut her fiery hair and laid it in the Void. From her hair grew the Red Earth, and with her mighty Power She shaped the ground. With her flaming hands She sculpted the mountains and dug the seabeds; She prepared the rich soils of the plains a

The White Goddess bowed down and took the cold skinned hero in her arms. She could not hear the man's heart beating anymore. The Goddess spoke to him softly. Explaining the hero's destiny. Explaining his painful life full of suffering.
Even she knew, Link wouldn't hear.

hmm...well, i don't really know how to explain this.....
well the zelda games are pretty much the thing that gave me the most "inspiration" for my art and such. If you ask one of my friends, they will tell you how much of my sketchbook is filled with zelda drawings.
this kinda explains why my username is "freak4zelda" i chose it due to the amount of zelda artwork stuffed in my "gallery" and yeah....that's pretty much it....
